Pedophilia: a Psychiatric Disorder or a Perverse Sexual Orientation? A Critical Study of Vladimir Nobokovas Lolita

There are debates whether Pedophilia a universal psycho-social problem is a psychiatric disorder or a perverse sexual orientation Though a few number of pedophilia supporting groups argue that having sexual interests in children is merely a sexual orientation or fantasy but this paper explores further in analyzing different psychological insights of pedophiles especially in the contexts of Vladimir Nobokov s novel Lolita 1955 and its film adaptation of 1962 This paper gives a critical analysis of the views and practices of pedophilia in the contemporary world In addition to that this paper explores the binary opposite characters of Humbert and Clare Quilty to determine whether pedophilia is their sexual orientation or they are perverts who are only sexually attracted to young girls Apart from analyzing this perverse sexual practice this paper also discusses the established notions of pedophilia re de-constructs them and gives an elaborate discussion on this taboo topic from theoretical points of view In doing so this paper employs critical commentaries based on a number of established theories like Michel Foucault s theories on Sexuality Sigmund Freud s psychoanalysis and Laura Mulvey s envision of scopophili

Numerical solutions of a class of second order boundary value problems on using Bernoulli Polynomials

The aim of this paper is to find the numerical solutions of the second order linear and nonlinear differential equations with Dirichlet, Neumann and Robin boundary conditions. We use the Bernoulli polynomials as linear combination to the approximate solutions of 2nd order boundary value problems. Here the Bernoulli polynomials over the interval [0, 1] are chosen as trial functions so that care has been taken to satisfy the corresponding homogeneous form of the Dirichlet boundary conditions in the Galerkin weighted residual method. In addition to that the given differential equation over arbitrary finite domain [a, b] and the boundary conditions are converted into its equivalent form over the interval [0, 1]. All the formulas are verified by considering numerical examples. The approximate solutions are compared with the exact solutions, and also with the solutions of the existing methods. A reliable good accuracy is obtained in all cases.Comment: 6 table

DFT Study on the Li Mobility in Li-Ion-Based Solid-State Electrolytes

I have investigated the diffusion mechanisms of Li-ion in amorphous lithium phosphite (LiPO3) with addition of sulphur. By applying the nudge elastic band (NEB) method in crystal LiPO3 and Li3PO4, I confirmed the easing of diffusion pathways for Li ion in LiPO3 which is consistent with the previous theoretical finding[1]. From the diffusion study in 0.5 Li2O- 0.5 P2O5 and 0.4 Li2SO4 – 0.6 (Li2O-P2O5) melts above 3000K performed with ab-initio molecular dynamics (AIMD), produces identical outcome as experimental at lower temperatures. I demonstrated the benefit of addition of S in increasing Li+ mobility. I also found that the Li2SO4 addition into the glass results in a characteristic shift in Li-ion vibration to a lower vibrational frequency. In addition, the presence of oxygen surrounding the diffusion pathways appears to be essential in assisting the Li+ mobility in both crystalline and amorphous structures. The activation energy barrier shows similar pattern as reported in experimental analysis with LiPO3[2]

Feminization of Employment and Gender Inequality of Bangladesh Labor Market: The Case of Garment Industries

The recent breakthrough in the feminization of employment that took place in the Ready-made Garment (RMG) industries of Bangladesh has been accompanied by vigorous debate among scholars, policymakers and stakeholders about its effect on women in terms of gender in/equality. Because although women’s labor force participation tends to increase with economic development, this relationship is often not straightforward or consistent with the elimination of gender discrimination. Based on an analysis of this debate on gender inequality of labor market, this paper explores how garment female workers view and experience gender inequality in their everyday lives in respect to family-market-state relations. Applying a range of qualitative method and revisiting dual-systems theory, the analysis draws on in-depth interviews with twelve female garment workers and on interviews with thirty female garment workers at three garment industries located in different areas of Dhaka city. Empirical findings demonstrate that the new feminization of employment in the ready-made garment industries has portrayed the coexistence and intersections of multiple gender disparities within male-dominated power structures both at family and workplace. It is also evident that capitalist interests along with patriarchal norms and values influence the use of women as a cheap, flexible and docile labor to earn the maximum profits at the minimum possible cost. Findings further reveal that the role of the state is also insufficient to ensure gender equality in the ready-made garment industries. The paper concludes that the increasing rate of feminization of employment in Bangladesh ready-made garment industries does not coincide with the elimination of gender disparities to any larger extent. GaAs metal-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MESFETs) have been fabricated utilizing thermally stable Pd/Sn and Pd/Sn/Au ohmic contacts for the first time. MESFETs with Pd/Ge ohmic contacts are fabricated for comparison. The thermal stability of the Pd/Sn, Pd/Ge and Pd/Sn/Au ohmic contacts is also presente

People’s Participation in Health Services: A Study of Bangladesh’s Rural Health Complex

    Get PDF
Health is a basic requirement to improve the quality of life. A national economic and social development depends on the state of health. A large number of Bangladesh’s people, particularly in rural areas, remained with no or little access to health care facilities. The lack of participation in health service is a problem that has many dimensions and complexities. Education has a significant effect on participation in health services and administrative factors could play a significant role in increasing the people’s participation in Bangladesh’s health sector. But the present health policy is not people oriented. It mainly emphasizes the construction of Thana Health Complexes (THCs) and Union Health and Family Welfare Centers (UHFWCs) without giving much attention to their utilization and delivery services. The study reveals that financial and technical support is very helpful to ensure health service among village people. However, the Government allocates only 5 percent of the budget to the health sector, while it allocates 13 percent for defense. The paper shows that the Government’s allocation and technical support (medical equipments) are not sufficient in the rural health complex and that the people’s participation is far from being satisfactory. The paper concludes with a variety of recommendations.Bangladesh, health, participation, rural health
